Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualifications are widely recognised by employers and are awarded by the UK’s leading body for accounting staff ( The qualifications are divided into four key areas, each designed to help you improve your skills and knowledge of different areas in the finance and accounting environment. Studying for these qualifications will demonstrate that you are committed to continuous professional development, boost your job prospects, enhance your CV and get you noticed by potential employers.

Choosing the right level

If you are interested in pursuing a career in finance and accountancy, then the AAT Level 1 Award in Accounting will help you make that first move towards getting a job and giving you a sound knowledge of basic finance and accounting principles. At this level you’ll learn finance administrator skills such as double entry bookkeeping, basic costing principles as well as purchase, sales and general ledgers.

The AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting is for you if you are new to finance or looking to brush up your foundation knowledge and skills. This level will give you hands-on experience of maintaining basic business accounts and improve your knowledge of financial administration processes including double entry bookkeeping, basic costing principles and purchases, sales and general ledgers and computerised accounting.

If you are working in a finance and accounting environment and want to improve your knowledge of more complex financial procedures such as creating and maintaining final accounts for sole traders and partnerships, recording and analysing costs and revenues and operating cash management and credit control systems as well learning about professional ethics then the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting is for you.

If you are at a more advanced level in your career and/or have completed levels 2 and 3, the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting will enable you to produce management accounts at all levels, develop your financial team leader skills, produce and maintain financial statements for limited companies as well as improving your skills in handling more complex management accounting tasks.
The AAT programmes are run at our Hammersmith, Ealing and Southall campuses. The Professional Diploma in Accounting is available as an intensive course at Ealing (Day) and as modules at Hammersmith (Evening).
