This course is for you if you have interest in creative activities involving art, design and media. You will do traditional drawing, painting, modelling, and also make digital art using Photoshop, Illustrator, and interactive media software. Additionally, you will produce video projects and photographic work.

The course is 1 year and is made up of 7 units.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of Entry Level 3 literacy (successful completion of speaking listening, reading and writing or internal assessment). No previous qualifications are required for this course. But we are looking for enthusiastic students who are prepared to try their hand at a range of activities with a 'can do' attitude. We interview all students and require all interviewees to show evidence of artistic ability. Interviewees who have not studied Art & Design before will be required to complete a drawing task.

Assessment Method

Students performance is graded via a combination of practical and written coursework.

Course units are assessed throughout the year, building towards a final project which brings together the various skills you have learned. Each unit addresses a different area of Art, Design & Media and all units must be passed to successfully pass the course. Work is assessed and internally verified, and feedback is provided both in writing and verbally. Final grades are agreed by a UAL external moderator.

Progression Opportunities

What job could I get afterwards? The course is designed to help you to get a job in a variety of creative industries, but our successful students usually continue within the College and progress to a Level 2 course in their preferred creative subject area. Some students eventually progress through our courses to a degree course at university.

Learners who completed this course went on to:

  • a Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design OR Level 2 Creative Digital Media Production
  • employment.
