Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.
If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.
If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.

This course is for you if you are looking to gain the skills and knowledge to undertake a career career in Networking, Computer Hardware Systems and in Systems Support roles. The Level 3 Diploma in ICT Systems and Principles for IT Professionals qualification provides a substantial range of knowledge and practice required to work in the ICT industry in roles such as; support technician, network and cable installation designer, software developer, games developer or telecoms technician. It can be used for the Technical Certificate in Advanced Apprentice in IT, Software, Web and Telecoms.
Learners will be required to complete a number of units within an ICT support Environment which will include amongst others:
- Customer support provision;
- Install, configure and integrate networked hardware and software;
- ICT system and network management;
- Maintain ICT equipment and systems;
- ICT repair centre procedure;
- Testing ICT systems;
- Level 3 networking principles;
- IT consulting skills and principles of ICT system and data security.
All learners will also get a chance to improve their literacy and numeracy to level 2, either with a programme of study that includes GCSE English and Maths, or Functional skills English and Maths. The study programme will include work experience for a week which will enable you to develop your employability skills further, as well as study skills where you will complete modules such as Word and Excel to gain the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) qualification. All students will have a personal progress tutor who will support them throughout the course.
4 GCSEs grade A*-D (including Maths and English, or functional skills at Level 2 in Maths and English), or a Level 2 Diploma in ICT Systems Support with a level 2 qualification in Maths and English. Students with other relevant qualifications and appropriate industry experience will be considered. Successful completion of internal assessment is also required.
The course will be assessed through in class supervised assignments and online exams. Functional Skills Mathematics and English, or GCSEs are assessed via controlled exams.
Learners who complete this course successfully can progress onto employment for roles such as Network installation and maintenance, IT helpdesk support and IT Technician. Alternatively they can study further on the Access to HE Computing or an apprenticeship providing they hold GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths.
You will learn practical and theory using work related scenarios and actual work based assignments in dedicated classrooms and part of the time will be spent in IT labs. You will have up to 16 hours of timetabled classes each week including a group tutorial with your personal tutor, who will support and encourage you throughout the duration of the course. As part of the course employer visits and guest speakers will be arranged to enhance and contextualise your learning. This course is offered at the Hammersmith & Fulham College.
