Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.

Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.

If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.

International students will be required to pay the full International course fee.

The course at level 2 will teach you the skills be able to:

  • building repairs (brickwork)

  • painting and decorating repairs

  • plastering repairs

  • plumbing repairs

  • carpentry repairs These skills will then need to be demonstrated in a commercial environment and assessed by one of our staff in the workplace. You will be informed about the tasks you need to be assessed when you are inducted on the course

Entry Requirements

You are required to be in paid employment, self-employment is not allowed. If you are not working, you can enrol on our full-time programme and seek employment in the future which will allow you to start the apprenticeship at a later date.

Assessment Method

The technical certificate is tested via an online exam which is taken after a period of training. The practical work is completed after training in core and specific skills to the area you are working in.

The NVQ aspects of the course are completed via on site assessment in the workplace. This is completed via observed work, evidence from witnesses and discussions in relation to knowledge of the construction environment.

Progression Opportunities

You will be able to work as a Maintenance Operative on social aswell as domestic houses /flats that need an individual to repair and maintain them. You could work for a school, housing accusation, maintenance company or be responsible for using a range of trades at a basic level to maintain a group of hotels.

Study Methods

Construction is based at Acton Campus for the training of the technical certificate skills. You will be tested in the knowledge of every unit by an on-line exam after receiving teaching in the required knowledge. Practical work is trained and tested within a workshop after a period of skills training.
