Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.

Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.

If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.

International students will be required to pay the full International course fee.

The course has a vocational context with a strong managerial emphasis; fundamental principles and theory are also covered so that students can keep up to date with and understand current generic themes across the health and social care sector. The key themes covered will give those on the programme the opportunity to develop the following: equip individuals with underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for success in employment in the health and/or social care sector at a supervisory or management level supervisory or management position or adapting to general changes in the provision or environment of health and social care *prepare individuals to progress to further professional development of higher-level skills through to future study or career advancement

This programme consists of health and social care modules Core units: Communicating in Health and Social Care Organisations Principles of Health and Social Care Practice Health and Safety in the Health and Social Care Workplace Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care - requires at least 200 hours of work experience to be completed. Working in Partnership in Health and Social Care Managing Human Resources in Health and Social Care *Managing Financial Resources in Health and Social Care

Entry Requirements

One of the following Level 3 qualifications: BTEC L3 Extended/Diploma/Access to HE Diploma/1 A level or 2 AS levels. Work based qualifications will also need learners to be working in the relevant sector. Some courses will have specific entry requirements. Mature students who do not meet the entry criteria are encouraged to apply and will be considered on the basis of relevant work experience, passing the course entrance assessment and successful interview. If first language is not English, learners should have a minimum of 6.00 in IELTS for Foundation Degrees and 5.5 for Higher National Diplomas alongside a UK or equivalent international qualification.

Assessment Method

Each module is assessed using a variety of assessment methods. You will be required to demonstrate creativity, critical thinking, evaluation, decision making, personal reflection, time management and effective communication skills. Each module carries a number of assessments. Depending on the module you will be assessed through combinations of the following, formal reports, presentations, in-class and practice tests, case studies and reflective statements.

Progression Opportunities

A key progression path for Edexcel BTEC HNC learners is to the second year or third year of a HND programme, depending on the match of the Edexcel BTEC Higher National units to the degree programme. The qualification provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in the sector and their national recognition by employers allows direct progression to employment.
