Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.
Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.
If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.
If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.
International students will be required to pay the full International course fee.

This programme is aimed at those interested in pursuing a career in sports coaching and/or Sports Development. You will study a range of practical and theory based units that will give you the knowledge and skills to prepare sessions that introduce and lead people in an activity, make sure the working environment is healthy and safe and promote people’s personal and social development. You will get the opportunity to apply the skills you learn within local schools, leisure centres, professional sports clubs and multi-sports organisations. This qualification will provide you with excellent foundations to progress directly into the workplace.
This qualification will form part of a study programme which will include exclusive access to our Sports Academy and Enrichment programme, Maths & English, Tutorial support, Work Experience, and development of employability and study skills.
Maths and English is a fundamental element of this study programme and skills in these areas will be embedded into your vocational learning. In addition, if you do not have a grade C in Maths and/or English you will attend a discrete GCSE or Functional Skills class as part of your weekly timetable.
2-3 GCSEs grade A*-D OR Vocational Level 1/L1 Traineeship OR Vocation Level 2 at Pass grade/L2 Traineeship
Applicants may be asked to sit a literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment and must achieve a minimum of L1 All applicants must successfully pass an academic interview Some coaching/activity leadership experience preferable
You will be continually assessed throughout the course via a range of methods which may include witness testimonies, practical observations, worksheets, and written/oral questions. You will maintain a porfolio of evidence which will be generated as you progress through your units.
Following this qualification you can pursue a career in a number of sports coaching/activity leadership fields. This may include roles as an activity leader, an assistant instructor, a youth worker, an outdoor recreation assistant or a sports coach. You will also have the option to progress onto higher level courses such as one of our Level 3 BTEC qualifications in Sport or Public Services or into an Advanced Apprenticeship.
You will be required to attend college for approximately 12 hours per week, which will include your subject related sessions along with tutorial, and English & Maths as required. In addition to this you will be expected to undertake independent study to complete tasks, coursework and assessments.
You will study via a range of methods including theory seminars, practical sessions, workshops, and work placements, in dedicated classrooms and high quality facilities which include a full sized Sports Hall, Exercise Studio and Sports Science Laboratory with state of the art equipment. Some lessons may also occur in the large on-site health and fitness club, which students also have access to free of charge, or at off-site facilities. You will also learn through a range of relevant trips, visits and guest lectures.
