How to apply for an IELTS Test
Please read the following information carefully before you apply online for the test at EHWLC IELTS Test Centre:
Your ID Document:
Please note that if your ID document is rejected we will send you an email (make sure you check your spam folder in case our email gets sent there). If you fail to download the correct document your test will be cancelled and you will lose the test fee.
Please make sure that your ID is valid on the day of the test. It can be only one of the 3 following documents:
- your valid International Passport
- your valid European Union National Identity Card
- your valid UK Biometric Residence Permit (if you do not have a Passport in your possession)
If you do not have an original of one of the above mentioned documents on the day of the test – do not apply / pay for your test. You will not be able to sit the test and will not receive a refund.
On the test day you will be required to show us the original of the same ID document that you uploaded online. Any copies, even if they are verified by a solicitor are NOT accepted.
Candidates who don’t have their original valid ID document (the same as they used to apply online) will NOT be able to sit the test and will lose their test fee.
If UKV&I gave you any documents instead of your passport, you will need to bring these to our Hammersmith College BEFORE you apply and pay for your test. Not all Home Office/UKV&I are accepted by the IELTS Test Centre. Our Test Centre Manager will review your documents and will make a decision on whether they are valid in order for you to sit the IELTS test.
*If your Passport is currently with the UKV&I and you do not have a valid UK Biometric Residence Permit, you will need to get in touch with your caseworker and ask if they can release your Passport for the day of the test. DO NOT apply/pay for the test until you are sure that you will have a valid ID document in your possession on the day of the test.

How will I know that I have been accepted?
Once you have applied online, uploaded your ID document and paid for the test, we will consider your application. If your preferred date of the test is available, we will send you a confirmation letter via email. Please make sure you put a valid email address and mobile phone number in your online application. Please regularly check your spam folder to ensure our correspondence is not there.
EHWLC IELTS Test Centre reserves the right to move your test to the next available test date or change the venue if your preferred date/campus are fully booked.
Health and Safety:
Please note that you cannot bring any sharp objects to the test.
Refunds and transfers:
Refunds and transfers are only possible if they are requested more than 5 weeks before the test date (we charge a £35 administrative fee). Please see our FAQs for more information.
When will I get my Test Result Form (TRF)?
You can collect your TRF in person from our IELTS office at our Hammersmith Campus on the 13th day after your test between 10am and (1) pm. All uncollected results will be posted by 1st class Royal Mail at 1pm on the same day. Results can also be checked online, on the same day, with your candidate and your ID numbers at: https://ielts.britishcouncil.org/Results
Colleges and schools wishing to send groups of candidates to us on a specific date can request a block booking 2 weeks in advance.
Colleges and schools may pay online or can arrange to be invoiced for the test fees.
