Imperial College NHS Trust: Medical Record Assistant Sector Based Work Academy

With more than one million patient contacts each year Imperial College NHS trust has a growing requirement for trained Medical Record Assistants to work within the Medical records department in one of three hospitals based in West London.

How does the partnership work?

Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College (EHWLC) partnered with Jobcentre Plus and Imperial College NHS Trust with the aim of recruiting unemployed residents of West London as Medical Records Assistants at three Hospitals in West London.

What’s the opportunity?

Learners undertake a Pearson’s Level 1 qualification delivered through a bespoke course built around the employer and delivered at the Hammersmith & Fulham Campus of EHWLC at Barons Court. Candidates who attend each day are rewarded with work experience with the NHS and following a successful job interview will be offered a six month contract for a £19.000 P/A job.

How does it work?

An assessment and recruitment session takes place at the Hammersmith & Fulham College where the training is also delivered.

Hours: 09:30 – 16:30

Duration: 10 days (Mon-Fri) plus 2 days’ work experience

What are the outcomes for the learner?

  • Pearson BTEC Level 1, 9-credit Award in WorkSkills (QCF)
  • Work experience in NHS Trust Medical Records department
  • Guaranteed interview and the chance of full time employment

Results

  • 50% of candidates offered contracts
  • Strong partnership between The Imperial College NHS Trust, Jobcentre Plus and West London College
  • Plans to expand to other Hospitals in London

Spirit Pub Company: Kitchen Assistants Sector Based Work Academy

With the ambition of being the number one hospitality company in the UK, Spirit Pub Company have a growing requirement for trained kitchen assistants to work in their Taylor Walker branded pubs. Taylor Walker pubs are dotted around UK and are a favourite amongst tourists. They are easily identifiable by their brass exteriors, hanging baskets and friendly service offering customers the traditional British pub experience.

How does the partnership work?

Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College has joined the established relationship with Jobcentre Plus and Spirit Pub Company to recruit London residents as chefs at Taylor Walker pubs.

What’s the opportunity?

Learners undertake a City & Guilds qualification delivered through a bespoke course built around the employer and delivered onsite above The White Swan in Pimlico. Candidates who attend each day are rewarded with work experience in a Taylor Walker Pub and a job interview for a live vacancy.

How does it work?

An assessment and recruitment session takes place at Ye Olde Cock Tavern, Fleet Street and the training is delivered at The White Swan Pub, Pimlico.

Hours: 10:00 – 16:30

Duration: 11 days (Mon-Fri) plus 10 days’ work experience

What are the outcomes for the learner?

  • Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Hospitality Services) (QCF)
  • Work experience at a Taylor Walker Kitchen
  • Guaranteed interview and the chance of full time employment

  • Over 200 candidates employed (>40% of candidates)
