Frequently Asked Questions

What do I have to think about when choosing a course to study?
Try and find out as much as you can about the course you want to enrol on by using this website, a Course Guide, visit an Open Evening or drop into the College Information Centre (CIC) and talk to an advisor. The type of information you will be able to find will include:

  • What the course involves and how it is assessed.
  • Which site the course is running at.
  • How many hours per week you will need to study.
  • What qualifications, skills or work experience you will need to be accepted onto the course.
  • What you can go on to study after you have completed the course.
  • If there are any course and enrolment fees, any additional costs and what help with any costs is available.

Will I need specific qualifications to be accepted onto the course that I want to study?
For some programmes you will need to satisfy the qualification entry requirements. If this is the case you will need to bring evidence in the form of certificates or exam results slips with you to enrolment. Details of any entry requirements are shown on the information pages for every course and can also be found under each qualification in any of our course guides.

What level am I?
If you are concerned that the qualifications you have are no longer relevant or compatible with the qualifications offered at the College or are unsure of your current level, please see our Qualifications Explained page.

If you have an overseas qualification our advisors at the College will be able to check the equivalence of this for you. For some courses you will be asked to take a pre-assessment in the CIC. It’s nothing to worry about - it will help the interviewer determine which course is the best one for you and what support you may need whilst on the course. We will indicate if you need to take an assessment in your interview letter or you will be asked to come in before your interview is arranged.

What do I do if I am having trouble filling in the application form?
If you need any further help with filling in an application form all you need to do is contact our College Information Centre by:

1. Visiting us in person. We have College Information Centres situated on each of our sites and all of our course advisors will be pleased to help.
2. Freephone 0800 980 2185 and speak to one of our helpful enquiry team.
3. Email: cic@wlc.ac.uk with your enquiry

What help is available for applicants with disabilities?
When completing the application form, please let us know if you have a learning need. This includes extra support when studying such as support in literacy, language or number but also means support for a disability or a medical condition.

When we receive your application form, the Additional Learning Support team will contact you, either by post or telephone, to discuss your needs and give you any help that you may require to attend an interview. If you would like to discuss your needs prior to sending in your application form or you need help to complete the form, please contact the relevant Additional Learning Support Manager at the site you are applying to.
