Learner Support Funds (LSF)

The Learner Support Fund is available to assist students with the costs associated with their course such as course materials, travel or childcare.

To be eligible students must be:

  • Aged 19 years or over at the start of the academic year.
  • Live in a low income household of less than £26,000 annually or are in receipt of benefits.
  • Have lived in the UK for a minimum of three years and have status to stay in the country.
  • Studying a Further Education (FE) course/s for a minimum of 6 hours per week.

Please note that childcare assistance is limited and students are assisted on a first-come, first-serve basis so please make sure you see us as soon as possible if you need assistance with the costs of your childcare.

Advanced Bursary

The Advanced Bursary is available for those students who have received the Advanced Learning Loan. To qualify students must fulfil all the criteria:

  • You must be over 19 years of age as of the 31st August in the year you start the course.
  • You must be in receipt of the Advanced Loan and provide proof of this.
  • You / your partner / parents / guardians / carers must be in receipt of an Income Related Benefit (Income Support / Job Seekers Allowance / Housing Benefit / Council Tax Benefit / Working Tax Credit / Employment and Support Allowance) OR you must live in a low income household (earning less than £26,000 in the last tax year).
  • Have lived in the UK for a minimum of three years and have status to stay in the country.

Please note that the bursary cannot be used to pay for tuition, registration or exam fees.

Access to Learning Fund

The Access to Learning Fund is intended to assist students on Higher Education (HE) courses who are experiencing financial hardship or need extra financial support with the costs associated with their course.

Students can apply for a maximum one-off payment of up to £200 for assistance with their living, travel or childcare costs or an emergency payment to assist with any financial emergencies.

To apply you must have successfully applied for your full student loan and grant.

Emergency Hardship Fund

The Emergency Hardship Fund is for students who have experienced an unforeseen change of circumstances during the academic year, which has resulted in them being in financial hardship.

Students can apply for a maximum one-off payment of £150 to assist them.
