Travel & Tourism students celebrate the end of their courses and many gain new jobs in the airline industry.

On Wednesday 25 May, Travel & Tourism students from Ealing, Hammersmith & West London's College celebrated the completion of their courses with an informal awards ceremony and celebration at the college's onsite Taste restaurant. A hot menu of canapes was prepared and served by the college's Catering & Hospitality students.

Amongst the Travel & Tourism graduates were the AIRTAC (Airline travel agency and check in) Level 2 course students; they had a lot to celebrate as many of them have already secured employment with British Airways, Heathrow Terminals 3 & 5 and Swissport at Luton Airport. Some of the roles the students will be taking on include: customs, security, customer services, passenger meet and greet, passenger services and more.

Shima Pourmokhtar has just completed her AIRTAC Level 2 and has already been offered a permanent full time job at Emirates Airlines to work in the VIP lounge: "Before coming on the course, I already had seven years' experience working for Iranian Airlines, but I still couldn't get a job in this country. I decided to enrol on the AIRTAC Level 2 course at Hammersmith & Fulham College. On the course, I got a lot of help with my interview techniques and how to apply for work. I have now been offered a job with Emirates Airlines, they were so impressed with me in my interview and showed a lot of interest in my AIRTAC qualification."

Monish Bhandari, Lecturer for Travel & Tourism at the college had this to say: "I am so proud of the students and what they have achieved. Some of them have been with us for years, starting at level 1 or ESOL courses and working their way up to the Travel & Tourism Diploma. They will all keep in touch because we have a Travel & Tourism alumni association."

The College's Travel & Tourism courses are designed to help students develop the relevant skills and knowledge they need to gain employment within the ever-expanding airline industry. The college supports the expansion of Heathrow and is helping provide people in the west London area with the skills to become more employable and to benefit from the jobs that the Heathrow expansion will create.

College Chief Executive, Garry Philips, says: "Our colleges are located in the heart of west London in a community where Heathrow is not only a huge employer, but also a key contributor to economic wealth through the opportunities that the additional routes will provide. We recognise the importance of ensuring that there is a skilled workforce ready to take on the job roles and careers that will be created and maintained through expansion."

Travel & Tourism courses are delivered at Hammersmith & Fulham College. Open Day events are being held at Ealing and Hammersmith campuses on 15 June 4-8pm: Open Days
