Six award-winning West London College students celebrated their success at the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards Ceremony this Monday at the Kensington Town Hall.
The students were among other young people who were awarded the prize earlier in 2017, recognizing their outstanding achievements at the college and in the wider community. The six winners were awarded a framed certificate and a badge as well as £250 which they will use to benefit their organisations.
The nominees were chosen by both college staff and their fellow students, and their achievements included contributions to the students’ community as well as personal achievements. Jack Petchey Foundation awards nominations are part of the Learner Voice programme initiated by the Student Services team, encouraging students to voice their concerns and ideas to improve college life.
Teachers and students nominated dedicated and exceptional students who put extra effort and energy into their studies and also commit to extracurricular activities, which help them broaden their skills and make the most out of their learning journey. Many of our students take part in charitable societies, such as the Student Action for Refugees and this was highlighted in their nominations.
Other students were nominated thanks to their personal characteristics and the positive influence they have on other people including going the extra mile to help other people with their studies or achieving great academic results despite personal difficulties during the term.
The ceremony was a great opportunity for friends and family to congratulate the winners on their achievements and share their success with them. The Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Award scheme not only celebrates outstanding young people but also enhances communities and helps to inspire other people.
Winners are asked to spend their funds on activity or equipment that would benefit the community that their nomination came from. Our winners are planning to organise a trip for their class, including theme parks and a West End show.
