West London College media students and staff attended the red-carpet premiere of “Your Teaching Career Starts Here” at Kensington & Chelsea Town Hall on Tuesday 16 October, for the first public viewing of the 15-minute film produced by West London College to encourage new teachers to the profession.
The film, commissioned by the Kensington, Chelsea and Westminster Bi-Borough Education Service, was produced over the past 9 months by the West London College media department at Ealing Green College.
Under the supervision of Audiovisual Technician, Hannah Walker and Media Technician, Peter Harvey, learners from Level 2 and Level 3 Media courses filmed interviews, fly-on-the-wall sequences and talking heads at a number of schools in the area, capturing footage of new teachers, mentors, representatives of the local councils and school children for inclusion in the film.
The film was extremely well received, with staff and students interacting with many of those featured onscreen before and after the showing.
Gareth McLennan, Head of Curriculum for IT, Digital & Creative courses attended the event, he said: “It was fantastic to see the students and staff collaborating on a professional film for real-world use and to see it exhibited at an event like this. We look forward to many similar projects this year. The film is a real credit to the effort, talent and professionalism of the students involved, and of Hannah and Peter, who oversaw the project throughout its production process.”
