Sports and Exercise Science Level 3 Extended Diploma student, Mohamed Ali, aged 16, ran in the English Schools Cross Country Athletics race last weekend, Saturday 14 March 2020, in Liverpool. Mohamed represented West London College and London over the 7700m distance. In April, Mohamed will be running for Great Britain in Slovakia in the World Cross Country championships.
Mohamed led the field part of the way, and you can see him in the video wearing an all-black strip. He finished eleventh in a field of 324 runners from all over England, with a time of 21’ 24” – just 30 seconds behind the winner!
Mohamed described why he loves running and competing: “I love running for England, some people will never have that opportunity and I am so pleased that I do. I love the highs and the lows of competing too from winning races to losing them, it motivates me to prepare better to win next time.”
Ros O’Garro, Head of School for Sports said: “This is a brilliant result for Mohamed and for the college. We were very pleased to be able to sponsor Mohamed to take part in the race and to support his athletics career wherever we can.”
