West London Green Skills Hub Launched Today

The West London Green Skills Hub, part of the Mayor’s Academies Programme, was launched today, 31 January 2022, at West London College. This £44m Programme will support Londoners into good jobs in sectors key to London’s recovery.

West London Green Skills Hub

The West London Green Skills Hub is dedicated to improving employment opportunities, reskilling the workforce, boosting West London’s economy and playing its role in helping to achieve the Mayor’s net zero target for carbon emissions by 2030. Led by West London College, the Hub is a partnership of West London training providers, local authorities, employers, trade groups, charities and others.  The work of the hub will cover Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow.

A key focus of the Hub will be on providing the training and skills needed by employers to create green jobs and to equip West Londoners with the skills and experience needed to secure green jobs in areas such as green construction, sustainability, recycling green spaces and electric vehicles.

The Hub will be working to raise the profile of green skills and green job opportunities and encourage more West Londoners into employment, apprenticeships, self-employment, traineeships and training.

An area of special focus for the Hub will be to support WIN – the Workforce Integration Network – which works to improve pathways for underrepresented groups in the workplace. The WIN programme is supporting young black men aged 16 to 24 years into living wage employment.

David Warnes, Deputy Principal at West London College, leader of the West London Green Skills Hub, said: “I am delighted that the Mayor has awarded the West London Green Skills Hub a contract. We have a tremendous line-up of partners supporting the Hub with many exciting opportunities in the pipeline. Over the next two years our goal is to equip West Londoners, especially people hardest hit by the pandemic, with the skills and experience needed to secure jobs in the green economy.”
