At West London College, we celebrated our new students joining us this September, with three Freshers’ Fairs over three days at our three colleges last week from 19 to 21 September 2023. Nearly fifty organisations, from banks to charities to employers to leisure centres to mental health charities, turned out in force to support us. Over 500 students came along to the buzzing events across the colleges.
Students were given sheets to make notes about the stallholders they spoke to and in return received stickers. Depending on how many stickers they had collected, they were rewarded with Krispy Kreme donuts.
Enrichment Officer, Ayaka Littlejohn who organised the events, said: “Freshers’ Fairs are all about making sure our students feel welcome and finding out how they can take an active part in our student community.”
Ayaka’s colleague, Work Experience Officer Louise Scully said: “Freshers’ Fairs are a great way for us to give our students an understanding of the support and services that are available, and how to access them.”
Dalia, one of the students who came along, said she felt inspired by the organisations she’d met at the Fair. Dalia said: “I’ve gained a lot of knowledge about many different things from achieving your dreams to challenging inequality.”
Her friend Anahita said: “My favourite stand was Forward UK. I’m a strong feminist and I am a great supporter of the work they are doing.”
We are grateful to the many organisations who kindly supported our Freshers’ Fairs:
