Essi Adjei

Essi joined West London College in 2017 to do a Professional Cookery Diploma at Hammersmith & Fulham College.

Essi said:

“I always wanted to be a Chef but as a single parent, I found it difficult to go back to education. With the encouragement of my 11-year-old son, I decided I had to follow my dream and fulfil my professional aspirations so I applied for the Professional Cookery course at West London College.

“During my course, I developed a great foundation of culinary skills and knowledge on which I continue to build upon. I learnt to prioritise and manage my time effectively to fit childcare and work with my studies. Also, learning in industry standard kitchens and preparing food for service at TASTE Restaurant helped me familiarise with the industry’s expectations and enhanced my customer service and teamwork skills.   

“Being a student at West London College was a rewarding experience; it was a time of achievement and personal growth for me. I identified my strengths and weaknesses and I built on my confidence as I proved to myself that I can achieve anything I set my mind to.”

Essi successfully completed the Professional Cookery Diploma course and is now studying BSc (Hons) Culinary Arts with Management at the University of West London whilst working at the same time.

“Although it was challenging, doing this course was definitely worth it and prepared me for combining study with working. With my teachers' support and motivation, I got a place at University and a job in the Catering industry as a Food Coach at John Lewis.”
