Assessor Qualification - Level 3

ABOUT THIS COURSE

This course will provide the learner with the skills, knowledge, and understanding required to assess occupational competence in the work environment, as well as assessing vocationally related achievement in environments other than the workplace (i.e. a workshop, classroom or other training environment).

This course consists of a number of pathways:
- L3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (3 credits - unit 1):
For those who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of assessment without any requirement to practice as assessors.

- L3 Award in Assessing Competence in a Work Environment (9 credits - units 1 and 2):
For assessors who assess occupational competence in an individual?s work environment.
- L3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (9 credits - units 1 and 3):
For those who assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the work environment (e.g. a workshop, classroom or other training environment)

- L3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) (15 credits - units 1, 2 and 3):
For those who assess occupational competence both in the workplace and in a classroom or workshop environment.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need to have up-to-date working knowledge and experience of best practice in assessment, as well as have two candidates both of whom should be completing the same accredited qualification. You will also be required to have a suitable qualified assessor within your specialist area that is able to countersign your evidence.       

ASSESSMENT METHOD

Unit 1 requires a demonstration of knowledge and understanding, completed through written assignments/workbooks, oral questioning and professional discussion.

Unit 2 of this course is assessed in the workplace and evidence for all learning outcomes for this unit must come from performance in the work environment, through observation of practice and expert witness testimonies, reflective accounts, professional discussions, assignment/workbooks, work products and review of work-based evidence.

Unit 3 is assessed in the classroom and evidence for all learning outcomes for this unit must come from a training workshop or classroom environment, through observation of practice and expert witness testimonies, skills tests, written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and prior learning. There is a expectation that you will need to attend standardisation meetings within your sector and follow standardised procedures.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

After successful completion of this course you may consider completing the IQA qualification - Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processed and Practice.

Upon completion of the assessor qualification, you will be a fully qualified assessor in your area of expertise, or can even take the step to become a end-point assessor.

STUDY METHODS

This is a flexible course which will be delivered online and consists of 1-2-1 and group sessions, as well as 1-2-1 sessions with your allocated assessor who will support and guide you throughout your time on the course. The duration of this course is 3-6 months, but it is completely online and self-paced and allows you to complete sooner.

FEES

If you will be aged 19 to 23 on 31 August in the year you begin your course and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, you may be eligible for fee remission to cover your course fees, depending on your circumstances. For more information on fee remission, please click here.
