ABOUT THIS COURSE

Step into the exciting world of beauty therapy with our Level 2 course, which has been designed to help you build the practical skills you need to thrive in the beauty industry. Whether you want to work in salons, spas, or freelance, this one-year, full-time course will give you the expertise to perform a range of essential beauty treatments, making you a sought-after professional in the field.

This course is specifically designed to teach you the specialist techniques used by professional beauty therapists. You will focus on the practical skills needed to deliver a range of treatments, including:

  • Eyelash and Eyebrow Treatments – Learn how to shape, tint, and enhance eyelashes and eyebrows, perfecting the techniques to give clients the best results.
  • Hair Removal Using Waxing Techniques – Master the art of waxing, from eyebrow shaping to full body waxing, ensuring you perform the treatment safely and effectively.
  • Make-Up Application – Gain the skills to apply make-up professionally, from everyday looks to evening glam, understanding how to match make-up with different skin tones and occasions.
  • Manicure and Pedicure – Learn how to carry out professional nail treatments, including hand and foot care, nail painting, and treatments for healthy, beautiful nails.
  • Skincare – Develop the knowledge to carry out facial treatments, skin analysis, and offer personalised skincare advice to clients.

The beauty industry is constantly evolving, and demand for skilled beauty therapists continues to grow. This Level 2 Diploma will give you the advanced skills required to work confidently with a variety of beauty treatments, ensuring that you are fully prepared to begin a successful career in this dynamic field.

You'll be working in The Salon, based at Hammersmith & Fulham College, which is open to the public, giving you real life customer service and client care experience. In addition, we also have an end-of-year show for you to showcase your best work on a catwalk to family, friends, industry experts and employers.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You should have:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths at grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 1 qualifications
    or
  • A relevant Level 1 course, Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths or ESOL at Level 1.

At enrolment, you will have an interview with our course tutors to ensure the course is right for you.

You may also need to complete an initial assessment in English and maths, depending on your grades.

Excellent attendance and punctuality are key elements of employability.

In addition, this course has a specific dress code to comply with industry standards:

  • Nails must be well maintained, short and without nail varnish
  • Make-up should be natural looking
  • Hair must be clean, well-cared for and tidy; if your hair is longer than shoulder length, it should be tied up in a bun
  • Personal jewellery is not allowed during practical lessons
  • Beards and moustaches must be neatly groomed and trimmed
  • Short sleeved-clothing with The Salon uniform/scrubs, accompanied by flat, covered black shoes

  • Continual assessment throughout the course

  • Written assignments

  • Written/online tests

  • Practical assessments undertaken on paying clients.


PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

After completing this course, you'll be well-prepared for further study or employment in the industry, such as a Level 3 Extended Diploma, which can lead to university-level study.

FEES

School Leavers (16-18)

If you will be 16, 17 or 18 years old on 31 August before your course starts, and you have the legal right to live in the UK for the full length of your study programme, your course will be free.

If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August before your course starts, are resident in London, and have the legal right to stay in the UK for at least 12 months, you may be eligible to study for free, depending on your circumstances and chosen course. For more information, please click here.
