This is a new and exciting course for young people who have additional learning support needs and are transitioning into community engagement, meaningful activities or vocational volunteering opportunities.
This flexible programme will be tailored to meet the needs of individual students. The main focus of this course will be to explore opportunities for supporting and participating in the local community, ways of accessing local facilities, getting involved in local projects and volunteering.
Students will work closely with the tutor and a link worker to gain employability skills through work placements within local businesses, charity shops, care homes and other organisations depending on areas of interest of individual learners. Depending on the individual’s interests, it will be possible to source outdoor or indoor work placements.
Students will improve their communication and skills for independence by participating in various community groups and local community projects as well as finding out how to access local community provision such as leisure centres and libraries.
Students and carers will be introduced to local Adult Social Care services as well as organisations that can support young people with SEN manage their social and health care needs, in order to support them to successfully transition into community provision and volunteering for the following year.
This course has been designed for students with SEND.
Before enrolment, students will meet our course tutors to ensure the course is right for them. They may also need to complete an initial assessment in English and maths, depending on their grades.
If a student has an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan), we will need a formal consultation with the Local Authority who issued it, prior to enrolment.
All students will compile a portfolio of evidence that will contain a mixture of photographs, witness statements, personal statements and course work. The portfolios are internally assessed and verified prior to external verification by an Awarding Body.
Some students will be entered for Functional Skills English and Maths live assessments at the level indicated during initial assessments and verified through continuous diagnostic assessments.

All students will participate in small group sessions comprising no more than 10 students. The study methods are a mix of practical, theory and independent research completed by students with appropriate support.
There are no formal entry requirements; however, suitability will be discussed at interview and based on individual circumstances. You should be in your final year of education, looking to transition into community engagement and have an EHCP.
School Leavers (16-18)
If you will be 16, 17 or 18 years old on 31 August before your course starts, and you have the legal right to live in the UK for the full length of your study programme, your course will be free.

Adult Students (19+)
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August before your course starts, are resident in London, and have the legal right to stay in the UK for at least 12 months, you may be eligible to study for free, depending on your circumstances and chosen course. For more information, please click here.
