Exploring Caring - Level 1

ABOUT THIS COURSE

The BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Health and Social Care has been developed to give learners the opportunity to:

  • Engage in learning which is relevant to them and will provide opportunities to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
  • Achieve a nationally recognised Entry or Level 1 vocationally-related qualification.
  • Progress to employment in the health and social care sector.
  • Progress to related general and/or vocational qualifications.
  • Develop their own personal growth and engagement in learning.

This qualification provides a work-related focus and covers some of the knowledge and practical skills required for a particular vocational sector. It offers an engaging programme for those who are clear about the vocational area that they wish to learn more about.

The Pearson BTEC Level 1 Certificate is a suitable qualification for those wishing to change career or move into a particular area of employment following a career break.

Those enrolled on the course also complete the L1 Award in Personal Social Development (PSD).

You will attend college for one day per week.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no specific entry requirements, but you must be able to complete assessments for the level of course that you are enrolling on.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

This qualification will be internally assessed using a range of methods, which could include written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams, or setting up an information board.

To achieve the Certificate in Health and Social Care the learner must complete 4 units:

  • Investigating Rights and Responsibilities at Work.
  • Personal Care in Health and Social Care.
  • Communication with Adults and Children in Health and Social Care.
  • Job Opportunities in Health and Social Care.

To achieve the Award in PSD the learner must complete 3 units:

  • Community action.
  • Preparation for work.
  • Dealing with Problems in daily life.
PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

Learners can progress onto the Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to work in Health and Social Care.

STUDY METHODS

You will be taught using a variety of methods, such as having discussions, watching/preparing presentations, role play, note taking and team work.

FEES

If you will be aged 16 to 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your studies and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course will be free.
