Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy - Level 1 (Adults)

ABOUT THIS COURSE

The Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy has been designed for those wanting to prepare for a career as a Beauty Therapist, hair stylist, make-up artist, and make-up consultancy.

This qualification designed to introduce you to a range of practical skills from across the hair and beauty industry to prepare you for employment. You will develop your practical skills through improving the appearance of hair, hands, feet, facial skin and learn to apply basic make up.

Units studied may include:

  • Face Painting
  • Make-Up Application
  • Hand, Foot & Nail Care
  • Nail Art
  • Skincare
  • Customer Service Skills
  • Design a Retail Display in the Salon
  • Promote Hair & Beauty Products
  • Health & Safety
  • Shampoo & Condition Hair
  • Hair Styling
  • Hair Colouring
  • Blow Dry Hair
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need a grade 4 or above in at least 1 GCSE subject. Preferably Maths, English or Science. If you do not have any qualifications you will be asked to take an English and maths test at enrolment.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

Continual assessment throughout the course Written assignments Written/online tests Practical assessments undertaken on paying clients E-portfolio of evidence.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

You may wish to study furthere:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy 
  • Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing

You may also wish to seek employment.

STUDY METHODS

Full time, 3 days a week over 1 academic year.

You will receive a detailed Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector, including:

  • Health and Safety
  • Presenting a professional image (Professionalism)
  • Working with others (Teamwork)
  • Salon Reception Duties
  • Skin Care (Facials)
  • Basic make-up (cosmetic make-up)
  • Nail Services
  • Shampoo and condition hair
  • Blow dry hair
  • Plaiting and twisting hair
  • Prepare for hair and beauty services
FEES

If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your studies and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, you may be eligible for fee remission to cover your course fees, depending on your circumstances. For more information on fee remission, please click here.
