Pathways to Art, Design and Media

ABOUT THIS COURSE

 

This course will focus on traditional drawing, painting, collage and 3D modelling skills as well as using current digital art applications and techniques to create a variety of digital artworks. Additionally, you may be able to produce animation projects and photographic works using traditional and digital methods. Past years have included visits by professional external practitioners who worked with us to deliver workshops on Mask Making, Stick Puppet Making, Bunraku Puppet Making and Stop-Motion Animation.

  • Art, Design & Media Projects
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Ideally for learners at Entry 3 with interest or experience in visual arts.

Formal qualifications are not essential.
Learners will attend interview and English and maths assessment.
Ideally for learners for learners with an EHC plan, the college will require a formal consultation from their Local Authority.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

All students will compile a portfolio of evidence that will contain a mixture of photographs, witness statements, personal statements and course work. The portfolios are internally assessed and verified prior to external verification by an Awarding Body.

Some students complete a portfolio which records their progress and development using RARPA (Recognising and Recording Personal Achievement), these portfolios are internally verified.

Most students will be entered for Functional Skills English and Maths live assessments at the level indicated during initial assessments and verified through continuous diagnostic assessments.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

Progression for each learner is individually planned.
If students successfully complete this programme of study they can progress onto another vocational pathway, Foundation learning, Supported Internship or mainstream options.
Some learners at the end of their academic journey will progress onto community Provision.
Progression subject to students meeting eligibility criteria.

STUDY METHODS

Students will be assessed at the start of their course. Teaching and Learning will be differenciated to meet individual needs.

All students will participate in small group sessions comprising no more than 10 students. The study methods are a mix of practical, theory and independent research completed by students with appropriate support.

You will be required to:

  • Undertake enterprise activities and fundraising events as part of the course.
  • Work as part of a team and support others.
  • Undertake specified work experience placements.
WHAT WILL IT COST?

You will need to maintain a basic art kit of essential materials, and to bring these materials to each class, including a range of pencils, ruler, rubber, scissors, a glue stick and an A4 sketchbook.
