You’ll gain the skills, knowledge, and industry connections needed to take your next step - whether that’s entering the workforce or progressing to university.

From exploring global destinations and tour guiding, to understanding the conference and events industry, business travel, and customer service, this course offers a comprehensive foundation to help you achieve your career goals.

Learning goes beyond the classroom. You’ll experience the industry firsthand with opportunities such as a three-week overseas work placement in countries like Spain, Italy, or Portugal, as well as educational trips to popular destinations. These real-world experiences will give you valuable insight into global tourism practices and operations.

Career opportunities in this sector are wide-ranging and include roles such as travel consultant, event planner, airline cabin crew, airport operations staff, and tourism marketing specialist. With the skills and experience gained through this course, you’ll be well-prepared to make your mark in the industry.

The Extended Diploma is structured as two separate qualifications. In your first year, you’ll work toward the certificate. If you continue into a second year, you’ll complete the full diploma and earn the maximum UCAS points for university entry. After successfully completing Year 1, you’ll automatically progress into Year 2.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need

  • Four GCSEs grade 4 or above, including English and maths
    or
  • A relevant Level 2 qualification and Functional Skills in English and maths at Level 2

 

ASSESSMENT METHOD

Your assessments are designed to match what you’ve learned. All your work will be marked by your tutors, giving you a chance to show off your skills in real-world situations.

You’ll be graded on a scale of Distinction, Merit, Pass, or Unclassified. This grading system helps you see how well you’re doing and where you can improve.

You’ll build a portfolio of your coursework, showcasing your progress throughout the course. Plus, you’ll get hands-on experience through practical assignments and receive feedback from your tutors. Some mandatory units may be assessed by external exams.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

After completing this course, you'll be well-prepared for employment, an apprenticeship, or further study, such as degrees at university.

School Leavers (16-18)

If you will be 16, 17 or 18 years old on 31 August before your course starts, and you have the legal right to live in the UK for the full length of your study programme, your course will be free.
