Access (Level 1) qualifications are an entry point for students who need additional support to develop their finance or business skills. These qualifications are designed to give students the introductory knowledge and confidence to take on higher level AAT qualifications and to progress in their lives and careers.
The AAT Access Award in Business Skills offers students at Level 1 the opportunity to develop key practical skills used in every business as a route into employment. On completion of this qualification, students will also be equipped with a strong foundation from which to progress to further study with AAT in either bookkeeping or accountancy if they would like to do so.
AAT does not set any prerequisites for the study of the AAT Access Award in Business Skills. However, the ability to communicate information clearly and appropriately to a given audience is a valuable skill in any role and in any type of business. For the best chance of success, we recommend students begin their studies with basic English & maths.
This course will introduce students to the world of work and develops their employability skills. The qualification covers a range of skills and the relevant supporting knowledge in three mandatory units:
- Preparing for Work,
- Using Numbers in Business,
- Sales and Purchases in Business.
A student completing this qualification will develop an understanding of how different organisations operate, across both the public and private sectors. They will learn how to contribute effectively in the workplace by working with others, managing their time, behaving professionally and maintaining security of data. Students will develop the skills to identify jobs that match their skills and abilities and to apply for a job using an application form or CV.
To start this programme, you MUST demonstrate ability to benefit from the course and have literacy and numeracy skills at Entry level 3. Exemptions from this requirement will be granted in exceptional cases where applicants can demonstrate prior knowledge or relevant experience. Any exemptions are granted at our total discretion. In addition you may be required to pass an Entry Test to ensure your skills are at the necessary level to cope with the course.
Students must successfully complete one end-of-qualification computer-based assessment to achieve this qualification. The proportion of this qualification assessed by external assessment is 100%
Learners who completed this course went on to apply for the AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping, and to follow this with the AAT Level 1 Award in Accounting Software and onto Level 2 and L3 studies. You could continue your studies and gain a partial or full AAT Qualification. You could work in a junior capacity in a clerical or similar role.
You will learn in dedicated classrooms and computer rooms, and be taught by an experienced tutor. Mode of attendance will vary depending on the college location either one day at Hammersmith & Fulham and Southall or an evening session of 4 hours per week at Ealing Green college. This course is offered at Hammersmith & Fulham, Ealing Green and Southall Community colleges.
