Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current academic year (2018/19) and are subject to change next year.

For students under 19

Our courses & apprenticeships are usually free if you are 18 or under on the 31st of August 2019. Some courses have additional fees for things like materials and travel, which you will need to pay at the start of your course. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support for these costs.

For students aged 19 or over

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees. Some courses may be free, depending on your circumstances. Certain Level 3 & 4 courses require you to pay the fee in full or take out an Advanced Learning Loan to pay for your course. Please see our guide to fees for more information.

International Students

Students from outside the EU/EEA need to pay the full international fee for their course. Please note, West London College does not offer Tier 4 Visa Sponsorship for students to study in the United Kingdom.

 


About this course

This course includes a series of practical and theoretical topics from Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths giving you enough depth and breadth to continue onto a career or course in a variety of fields in science. We cover the following topics:

  • The Nature and Applications of Energy;
  • Waves and Radiation;
  • The Study of Living Systems;
  • Electronics in Action;
  • Concepts and Techniques for Chemistry;
  • Healthy Living;
  • Working in Science and Technology;
  • Carrying out a Science or Technology Project;
  • Using ICT in the Workplace;
  • Using Mathematics Tools in Science and Technology;
  • Using Equipment to Make Scientific Observations and Measurements Forensic Detection;
  • Effective Communication in the Workplace.
Entry Requirements

An interest in Science with FS English and FS Maths at level 1 and recommendation from tutor.

Assessment Method

All assignments are scenario based to provide a vocational focus contextualising the work environment. Each assignment structure groups similar themed criteria together and where appropriate shows progression Pass, Merit or Distinction criteria. The assessment approach allows a greater flexibility for assessment for learning, where throughout the course learners can get feedback on their progress as they provide evidence to complete the assessment and grading criteria.

Progression Opportunities

On successful completion of a level 1 qualification, learners can progress to or within employment and/or continue their study in the same or related vocational area. There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for employment in the appropriate vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a particular area of work. Some learners may wish to gain the qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment or to progress to a Level 3 programme.
