Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current academic year (2019/20) and are subject to change next year.

For students under 19

Our courses & apprenticeships are usually free if you are 18 or under on the 31st of August 2019. Some courses have additional fees for things like materials and travel, which you will need to pay at the start of your course. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support for these costs.

For students aged 19 or over

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees. Some courses may be free, depending on your circumstances. Certain Level 3 & 4 courses require you to pay the fee in full or take out an Advanced Learning Loan to pay for your course. Please see our guide to fees for more information.

International Students

Students from outside the EU/EEA need to pay the full international fee for their course. Please note, West London College does not offer Tier 4 Visa Sponsorship for students to study in the United Kingdom.

 


About this course

Students on the BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Business will study a vocational business qualification. During the course they will develop knowledge and skills that are essential for academic success. Students will study a total of nine units including: Enterprise in the Business World, Finance, Marketing, Working in Business Teams. Introducing the Business Environment, Business Online, Promoting a Brand, Introducing Law and Consumer Rights and Sales and Personal Selling. Students are expected to take part in work experience, submit assignments on time and take part in self directed study at the akoted times. Students are expected to ensure that their attendance is above 90% at all times. The Level 2 extended certificate helps improve learners employability skills as well as offering learners an opportunity to study for a nationally recognised qualification.. Learners will take part in trips, debates and fundraising activities. The course will help develop learners confidence by ensuring that they experience a range of both learning and assessment opportunities

All learners will also get a chance to improve their literacy and numeracy to level 2, either with a programme of study that includes GCSE English and Maths, or Functional skills English and Maths.

This course will help you develop a range of job-related and personal skills to pursue an entry job role within the business industry such as an Apprentice, Office Administrator/Assistant, Retail Assistant or an entry level IT Assistant.

Entry Requirements

2-4 GCSEs grade D or 3 and above (including Maths and English, or functional skills at Level 1 in Maths and English), or a BTEC Level 1 Diploma with level 1 Functional skills in Maths and English. Successful completion of internal assessment is also required.

Assessment Method

Assessment is an integral part of the overall learning process and our student centred approach aims to promote and enhance creativity, analytical thinking, research skills and effective communication skills. You will be assessed through project work, written assignments, in class tests, presentations and observations. Each unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and you will receive an overall grade for the qualification. Some mandatory units will be assessed by an external exams.

Progression Opportunities

From this qualification you could progress onto a Level 3 business course, Level 2 or Level 3 apprenticeship. Alternatively, you may wish to study another Level 2 vocational qualification in another subject area to complement this course.

Study Methods

You will learn in dedicated classrooms using IT based equipment. You will have up to 16 hours of timetabled classes each week including a group tutorial with your personal tutor, who will support and encourage you throughout the duration of the course.

You will also gain exposure to business organisations through external visits, guest speakers and attending business exhibitions. You will also be offered the opportunity to take part in enrichment programmes.

The College offers tutorial and welfare services to provide support and guidance whenever it is needed. The Colleges Learning Resource Centre provides excellent facilities for private study and includes access to computers, an extensive library and quiet study areas.

Mode of attendance: three four days a week. You will also have to complete some independent work. As part of the course, employer visits and guest speakers will be arranged to enhance and contextualise your learning.
