Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current academic year (2019/20) and are subject to change next year.

For students under 19

Our courses & apprenticeships are usually free if you are 18 or under on the 31st of August 2019. Some courses have additional fees for things like materials and travel, which you will need to pay at the start of your course. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support for these costs.

For students aged 19 or over

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees. Some courses may be free, depending on your circumstances. Certain Level 3 & 4 courses require you to pay the fee in full or take out an Advanced Learning Loan to pay for your course. Please see our guide to fees for more information.

International Students

Students from outside the EU/EEA need to pay the full international fee for their course. Please note, West London College does not offer Tier 4 Visa Sponsorship for students to study in the United Kingdom.

 


About this course

This course is for you if you are planning a career in business. It will develop your knowledge, skills and understanding of many different aspects of the business world. You will study a wide range of subject areas such as

  • The Business Environment,
  • Business Resources,
  • Introduction to Marketing,
  • Business Accounting,
  • Personal and Business Finance,
  • Managing an Event,
  • International Business,
  • Principles of management,
  • Business Decision Making etc.

Upon successful completion of year 1, students will progress to year 2 to gain the full Extended Diploma. You will also have the opportunity to take part in work experience for a week, which will enable you to develop your employability skills further.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grade C or 4 and above (including Maths & English); or Functional Skills at Level 2; or BTEC Level 2 Diploma (minimum Merit grade achieved). Successful completion of internal assessment is also required.

International students need to have IELTS 5.5 or equivalent (min 5.0 in Reading and Writing). Good attendance and punctuality on previous courses either at the college or at a previous school or college.

Assessment Method

Assessment is an integral part of the overall learning process and our student centred approach aims to promote and enhance creativity, analytical thinking, research skills and effective communication skills. You will be assessed through project work, written assignments, in class tests, presentations and observations. Each unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and you will receive an overall grade for the qualification.

Progression Opportunities

You will need to pass all 9 units in the first year in order to progress to year 2 for the Diploma/Extended Diploma. Many learners will study for this qualification with a view to setting up their own business or perhaps seeking employment within a recent start-up company. Others might seek to specialise further by progressing onto a relevant degree in the specific sector of interest.

Study Methods

You will learn in dedicated classrooms using IT based equipment. You will have up to 16 hours of timetabled classes each week including a group tutorial with your personal tutor, who will support and encourage you throughout the duration of the course. You will also gain exposure to business organisations through external visits, guest speakers and attending business exhibitions. You will also be offered the opportunity to take part in enrichment programmes. The College offers tutorial and welfare services to provide support and guidance whenever it is needed. The Colleges Learning Resource Centre provides excellent facilities for private study and includes access to computers, an extensive library and quiet study areas.

Mode of attendance: three to four days a week. You will also have to complete some independent work. As part of the course, employer visits and guest speakers will be arranged to enhance and contextualise your learning.
