For students under 19
Our courses & apprenticeships are usually free if you are 18 or under on the 31st of August 2019. Some courses have additional fees for things like materials and travel, which you will need to pay at the start of your course. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support for these costs.
For students aged 19 or over
If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees. Some courses may be free, depending on your circumstances. Certain Level 3 & 4 courses require you to pay the fee in full or take out an Advanced Learning Loan to pay for your course. Please see our guide to fees for more information.
Students from outside the EU/EEA need to pay the full international fee for their course. Please note, West London College does not offer Tier 4 Visa Sponsorship for students to study in the United Kingdom.
This is an exciting course that will offer learners who wish to progress in business, administration or finance an opportunity to develop essential study skills along with vocational units to create a firm foundation for successful progression to Level 2 qualifications. The Award in Administration and Finance is ideal for learners who are not yet ready to commit to a larger qualification. As well as developing your knowledge and understanding of business in general, you will also have the opportunity to take part in work experience for a week. Units covered will include; Introduction to Study Skills, Generating and Presenting a Business Idea, and Marketing. You will have a personal progress tutor who will support you throughout the course. All learners will also get a chance to improve their literacy and numeracy to level 1, with a programme of study that includes Functional skills English and Maths. As part of the course you will also study the AAT Access Award in Business Skills which will introduce you to the world of work and develops your employability skills. The qualification covers a range of skills and the relevant supporting knowledge in the following three units; Preparing for Work, Using Numbers in Business, Sales and Purchases in Business. This course will help you develop a range of job-related and personal skills to pursue an entry job role within the business industry such as an Apprentice, Office Administrator/Assistant, Retail Assistant or an entry level IT Assistant.
Initial Assessment and Interview with a minimum of Entry 3 in maths and English.
The majority of the course is assessed through coursework, a mixture of in class assignment projects and presentations with only the Functional Skills Mathematics and English being assessed through a controlled exam. You will sit a final exam for the assessment of the AAT L1 Access Award in Business Skills. On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the OCNLR Level 1 Award in Skills for professions in Business, administration and Finance and the AAT L1 Access Award in Business Skills.
Learners who completed this course went on to the full Level 1 Diploma in Business. Progression to other subjects is also possible at this level.
You will learn in dedicated classrooms using IT based equipment. You will have up to 16 hours of timetabled classes each week including a group tutorial with your personal tutor, who will support and encourage you throughout the duration of the course.
You will also gain exposure to business organisations through external visits, guest speakers and attending business exhibitions. You will also be offered the opportunity to take part in enrichment programmes.
The College offers tutorial and welfare services to provide support and guidance whenever it is needed. The Colleges Learning Resource Centre provides excellent facilities for private study and includes access to computers, an extensive library and quiet study areas.
Mode of attendance: three to four days a week. You will also have to complete some independent work. As part of the course, employer visits and guest speakers will be arranged to enhance and contextualise your learning.
