Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.

Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.

If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.

International students will be required to pay the full International course fee.

This course is for you if you are looking to gain the skills and knowledge to undertake a specific ICT support job role. The Level 2 Diploma in ICT Systems Support course is an introduction to the knowledge required to work as a system support technician, network support technician or telecoms support technician. It will allow learners who are successful in IT to progress onto a practical IT support course where they can develop their IT skills further and seek employment as junior IT technician or further progress onto a L3 System Support & Principles course.

Learners will be required to complete a number of units within an ICT support Environment which will include amongst others:

  • Customer service skills;
  • PC building;
  • Software installation and maintenance;
  • Basic maintenance procedures;
  • Understand the world of Networking.

All learners will also get a chance to improve their literacy and numeracy to level 2, either with a programme of study that includes GCSE English and Maths, or Functional skills English and Maths. The study programme will include work experience for a week which will enable you to develop your employability skills further as well as study skills where you will complete modules such as Word and Excel to gain the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) qualification.

Entry Requirements

2 - 4 GCSEs grade A* - D (including Maths and English, or functional skills at Level 1 in Maths and English), or a BTEC Level 1 Certificate/Diploma with level 1 Functional skills in Maths and English. Successful completion of internal assessment is also required.

Assessment Method

The majority of the course will be assessed through practical demonstration / assignment coursework and online multiple choice test, with the Functional Skills Mathematics and English, or GCSEs being assessed through controlled exams.

Progression Opportunities

Learners who complete this course successfully can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in ICT Systems Support and Principles, A career path as junior IT technician or an Apprenticeship.

Study Methods

You will learn in dedicated classrooms and IT labs with the latest software and equipment. You will have up to 16 hours of timetabled classes each week including a group tutorial with your personal tutor, who will support and encourage you throughout the duration of the course. As part of the course employer visits and guest speakers will be arranged to enhance and contextualise your learning. This course is offered at the Hammersmith & Fulham College.
