Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current academic year (2019/20) and are subject to change next year.

For students under 19

Our courses & apprenticeships are usually free if you are 18 or under on the 31st of August 2019. Some courses have additional fees for things like materials and travel, which you will need to pay at the start of your course. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support for these costs.

For students aged 19 or over

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees. Some courses may be free, depending on your circumstances. Certain Level 3 & 4 courses require you to pay the fee in full or take out an Advanced Learning Loan to pay for your course. Please see our guide to fees for more information.

International Students

Students from outside the EU/EEA need to pay the full international fee for their course. Please note, West London College does not offer Tier 4 Visa Sponsorship for students to study in the United Kingdom.


About this course

This course is for you if you are planning a career in IT or Computing. It will develop your knowledge, skills and understanding of many different aspects of IT and computing including networking, application development and web design.

In addition to the core modules of:

  • Communication & Employability Skills
  • Computer Systems
  • Information Systems

Other units studied will vary according to the pathway followed. The pathways and units on offer at each campus will vary.

Network & System Support Pathway, offered at the Hammersmith campus, will include, amongst many others, units on Managing Networks, IT Technical Support, IT Systems Trouble Shooting & Repair and Installing and upgrading Software.

Digital Creativity and Application Development pathways at the other campuses will include units on Web Design & Web Development, Web Server scripting, Client Side Customisation of Web Pages, Digital Graphics & Web Animation, Software Design & Development, Developing Computer Games, Object Oriented Programming and Event Driven Programming.

All students will be placed on the 90 credit Diploma in year 1. Upon successful completion of year 1, students can progress to year 2 to gain the full Extended Diploma.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in work experience for a week, which will enable you to develop your employability skills further.

Entry Requirements

For the Certificate/90 credit Diploma - 4 GCSEs grade A - C, including English and Maths. Students with full level 2 vocational qualifications with an overall Merit/Distinction will be considered alongside 2 GCSEs grade A - C including GCSE English and Maths, and a good reference.

You will need to pass all units from the 9 units from Year 1 and have a satisfactory reference in the first year in order to progress to year 2 for the Diploma/Extended Diploma.

Assessment Method

You will be assessed through project work, written assignments, in class tests, presentations, observations and work experience.

Progression Opportunities

You can get jobs in a range of IT fields from software development, web design and development or networking and user support.

BTEC level 3 courses attract UCAS points:

  • Subsidiary Diploma is is equivalent to 1 A levels
  • The 90 credit is equivalent to 1.5 A levels
  • The Diploma is equivalent to 2 A levels
  • The Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A levels.

The majority of students progress to Degree or Higher National Certificate (HNC) courses. Alternatively, you can go straight into employment

Study Methods

You will learn in dedicated classrooms and IT labs with the latest software and equipment including Google G-Suite, MS Office and Adobe Suite software. You will have, on average, up to 16 hours of timetabled classes each week including a group tutorial with your personal tutor, who will support and encourage you throughout the duration of the course.

As part of the course employer visits and guest speakers will be arranged to enhance and contextualise your learning. This course is offered at our Hammersmith & Fulham, Ealing Green and Southall campuses.
