Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.

Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.

If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.

International students will be required to pay the full International course fee.

About this course

This qualification is primarily aimed at practising electricians with relevant experience and other allied professionals e.g. surveyors, consultants and other trades needing to update and enhance their understanding of IEE Wiring Regulations.

It is also suitable for anyone wishing to demonstrate an understanding of the IEE 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).

The IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) are the definitive standards for the electrical industry in respect of safe use and operation of electrical equipment and systems. They set requirements and operating criteria for the UK and correspond to EC standards and are recognised by the British Standards Institute as a British Standard (BS 7671). It is intended to ensure that individuals are conversant with the format, content and application of the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: June 2008 (2015).

Entry Requirements

This course is aimed at working electricians and useful if you want to develop your knowledge of electrical installations. You must have a good command of English and will need to sit a short entrance test.

Assessment Method

Candidates must successfully complete a 2 hour multiple choice online test. This is an open book assessment and learners will be allowed to take in the following permitted reference material:

  • IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671:2008 incorporating Amendment No 3 (2015)
Progression Opportunities

This qualification allows candidates to progress into employment or to the following City & Guilds qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations (2394-01)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (2395-01)
Study Methods

This course is entirely classroom based, it introduces wiring regulations and covers their application through explanation and worked examples. We will ensure that you are fully prepared for the examination.
