Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.

Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.

If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.

International students will be required to pay the full International course fee.

About this course

With the web design industry and the use of the Internet rapidly growing, our Level 3 Certificate in Web Design and Development will open up a wide range of exciting opportunities. This course will help learners build up the knowledge, understanding and skills to work in a number of roles that require web design and development expertise.

This Level 3 course will provide learners with the creative and technical skills needed to create or update a website, enabling them to work on a variety of projects including developing a secure e-commerce website, creating a virtual learning environment for schools and making an intranet for staff to use within a company.

The qualification covers a range of topics which are suited to a career in web design and development. It is ideal for those wishing to understand essential aspects such as web technologies, JavaScript, HTML, Internet security and Cascading Style Sheets.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to enrol on this Level 3 Certificate in Web Design and Development but ideally you have an interest in computers, the internet and the web - even if you have not learnt any web programming before. There will be some basic assessment in Mathematics, IT and English involved in the assignments for this course.

Assessment Method

To gain the qualification you will need to successfully complete all the units in the course.

After each lesson there will be a question paper which needs to be completed and submitted to your assessor for marking.
This method of continual assessment ensures that your assessor can consistently monitor your progress and provide you with assistance throughout the duration of the course.

You should allow at least 10 hours of study a week, including 1 - 2 hours to complete each question paper. The approximate amount of time required to complete the course is 320 hrs (about 8 months).

After successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate in Web Design and Development (RQF) Level 3 issued by Innovate Awarding.

Progression Opportunities

This is a very effective gateway qualification if you are looking to enter the web development and design area of a company, it gives you an extremely broad view of the commercial realities of bringing an effective website to life and how to maintain it. In addition if you are already in an IT-related role this qualification will teach you the skills, competency and vocabulary of the web development world in order to help you succeed and progress into a more specialised role.
