Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.

Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.

If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.

International students will be required to pay the full International course fee.

About this course

This course is for you, if you want to work in the field of Health and Care establishments such as: Hospitals and Care Homes or start a career in Community Work, Social Services or The Probation Services.

Alternatively, you may wish to pursue more advanced study on:- Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work Training Courses and a range of university degree courses to seek a career in the general field of Health or Social Care.

In year 1 you will have the opportunity to study the following units:

  • Developing Effective Communication
  • Equality, Diversity and Rights.
  • Safety and Security
  • Development through the Life Stages
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Caring for Children and Young People

During the second year of the programme you will study a further units in Health and Social Care:

  • Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care
  • Sociological Perspectives for Health and Social Care
  • Psychological Perspectives for Health and Social Care
  • Values and Planning in Social Care
  • Public Health
  • Working in the Social Care Sector

All learners will be required to undertake work experience:

  • a minimum of 50 hours in year 1
  • a minimum of 50 hours in year 2

You will be in college for 3 days per week and will spend 1-2 days per week in placement. You will also undertake a course of study in English and Maths.

You must complete year 1 successfully in order to move into year 2

Entry Requirements

3-4 GCSEs grade A - C/9-4, including English Language D/3. Students with full Level 2 vocational qualifications with an overall Merit/Distinction will also be considered.

Assessment Method

The course is assessed by the submission of coursework.

Progression Opportunities

HND in Health Care Practice Study at University on health, nursing, social work, social policy, psychology or criminology programmes. Employment in the field of Health and Social Care.

Study Methods

You will learn in dedicated classrooms and undertake a programme of visits and professional input. You will undertake discussion and submit coursework.
