Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.

Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.

If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.

International students will be required to pay the full International course fee.

About this course

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Healthcare Practice for England offers students specialist pathways designed to support progression into relevant occupational areas or on to degree-level study.

Holders of the Level 5 Higher National Diploma will have developed a sound understanding of the principles in their field of study and will have learned to apply those principles more widely. They will have learned to evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solving problems. They will be able to perform effectively in their chosen field and will have the qualities necessary for employment in situations requiring the exercise of personal responsibility and decision-making

The course offers:

  • A stimulating and challenging programme of study that will be both engaging and memorable for students
  • The essential subject knowledge that students need to progress successfully into further study or the world of work
  • Assessments that consider cognitive skills (what students know) along with affective and applied skills (respectively how they behave and what they can do)Unit-specific grading and Pearson-set assignments
  • A varied approach to assessment that supports progression to higher levels and also allows centres to offer assessment relevant to the local economy

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Healthcare Practice for England requires at least 450 hours of work experience/placement in health and/or social care settings and a Professional Learning and Development portfolio (PLAD), including reflective accounts, to be completed over the two year period of the qualification.

Entry Requirements

You will need a Level 3 Diploma, or above, in Health and Social Care or any other related subject area. You must be working in/or have access to work experience in the Health and Social Care Sector. You must also be able to complete the coursework at the required standard and will be assessed on your ability to complete the course successfully.

Assessment Method

Assignments are completed by submitting coursework and presentations and undertaking observations.

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma is recognised by Higher Education providers as meeting admission requirements to many relevant health and social care-related courses, for example:
