Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.

Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.

If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.

International students will be required to pay the full International course fee.

About this course

The course is designed to support students to move into Employment or further education through engaging in retail activities and setting up of enterprises.

Students will cover topics such as health and safety practices within the workplace, customer skills, preparing for recruitment interview, looking and applying for jobs or further education courses by completing CVs, letters of applications and engaging with various employers.

They will also be given the opportunity to work in a shop gaining real life experience as well as completing a work experience suited to their industry or sector of employment of their choice.

Entry Requirements

Initial interview and an English and Maths assessment. You will be required to undertake enterprise activities and fundraising events as part of the course. Work as part of a team and support others. Undertake specified work experience placements.

Assessment Method

All students will compile a portfolio of evidence that will contain a mixture of photographs, witness statements, personal statements and course work. The portfolios are internally assessed and verified prior to external verification by an Awarding Body. Some students complete a portfolio which records their progress and development using RARPA (Recognising and Recording Personal Achievement), these portfolios are internally verified.

Most students will be entered for Functional Skills English and Maths live assessments at the level indicated during initial assessments and verified through continuous diagnostic assessments or if they are not yet ready will do RARPA English and Maths qualifications.

Progression Opportunities

During the programme all students will receive expert advice and guidance that will prepare them for working life or further education. That preparation would include job searching, CV building, interview preparation skills, and application form filling.

This course could also be a pathway onto a mainstream course or Supported Internships.

Study Methods

All students will participate in small group sessions comprising no more than 10 students. The study methods are a mix of practical, theory and independent research completed by students with appropriate support.
