Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.

Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.

If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.

International students will be required to pay the full International course fee.

About this course

The in Skills for Professions in Animal Care course is designed to provide learners with the underpinning skills and knowledge required to progress to further study related to animal care and ultimately to work in this or other related sectors.

This qualification aims to give young people, aged 16-18, the opportunity to develop essential skills to create a firm foundation for successful progression to further study and/or careers in animal care.

Students will spend a minimum of two days in college studying for their Level 1 animal care qualification. They will also undertake a minimum of 35 hours work experience, one day a undertake a variety of enrichment events organised by West London College

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification however, you will be assessed on your, ability to complete the course successfully.

Assessment Method

All assessments are completed by completing coursework.

Progression Opportunities

On completion of the Skills for Professions in Animal Care you will have the required skills and knowledge to progress to qualifications at a higher level in subjects related to animal care. These qualifications represent the first step in a clear progression route through to vocational learning or higher education. Alternatively, you may progress to employment in entry level roles within animal care settings.

Study Methods

You will complete coursework in the field animal care as well as complete units on study skills. You will also undertake maths and English courses if you do not have GCSEs at grades 4/C or above in these subjects.
