Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current academic year (2019/20) and are subject to change next year.

For students under 19

Our courses & apprenticeships are usually free if you are 18 or under on the 31st of August 2019. Some courses have additional fees for things like materials and travel, which you will need to pay at the start of your course. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support for these costs.

For students aged 19 or over

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees. Some courses may be free, depending on your circumstances. Certain Level 3 & 4 courses require you to pay the fee in full or take out an Advanced Learning Loan to pay for your course. Please see our guide to fees for more information.

International Students

Students from outside the EU/EEA need to pay the full international fee for their course. Please note, West London College does not offer Tier 4 Visa Sponsorship for students to study in the United Kingdom.


About this course

This is an introductory qualification that will give you a broad insight into public services and will help you to develop the underpinning knowledge and skills required for working in the sector. Over the course of the year you will study a range of theory and practical units which will give you the necessary foundations to progress towards your desired career.

This qualification will form part of a study programme which will include exclusive access to our Sports Academy and Enrichment programme, Maths & English, Tutorial support, Work Experience, and development of employability and study skills. Maths and English is a fundamental element of this study programme and skills in these areas will be embedded into your vocational learning. If you do not have a grade C in Maths and/or English you will attend a discrete GCSE or Functional Skills class as part of your weekly timetable.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required, however, you will need a positive attitude, commitment and self-motivation. The course is designed for school leavers who are able to work at a level that is equivalent to GCSE grades D-F. Entry level courses are also available for those who want to progress to a level 1 qualification but do not yet meet these requirements. Minimum Entry Level 3 in English & Maths.

All applicants will be asked to sit a literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment and must achieve a minimum E3 in literacy All applicants must successfully pass an interview & show a positive attitude, commitment and self-motivation.

Assessment Method

You will be assessed throughout the year via a range of methods including practicals, worksheets, presentations, group projects and written assignments.

Progression Opportunities

On completion of this programme you will have the opportunity to progress onto a Level 2 programme in Public Services or Sport.

Study Methods

This is a full-time programme lasting one-year where you will be required to attend college for approximately 12 hours per week, which will include your subject related sessions along with tutorial, English and Maths. In addition to this you will be expected to undertake some independent study to complete tasks, coursework and assessments.

You will study via a range of methods including theory seminars, practical sessions, workshops, work placements, and laboratory experiments, in dedicated classrooms and high quality facilities which include a full sized Sports Hall and exercise studio. Some lessons may also occur in the large on-site health and fitness club, which students also have access to free of charge, or at off-site facilities. You will also learn through a range of relevant trips, visits and guest lectures.
