Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.

Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.

If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.

International students will be required to pay the full International course fee.

About this course

Level 3 Science in Lab Skills (Health Science) offer specialist pathways in environmental science, food science and human science.

They are designed in collaboration with experts spanning the breadth of the sector, this qualification focuses on the skills, knowledge and understanding that today’s universities and employers demand.

You will learn to carry out experiments safely and accurately which will better prepare you to progress to higher education or employment in areas related to laboratory science such as Life Sciences, Biological Science and Environmental Science.

Cambridge Technicals are designed to meet the Tech Level characteristics that will provide students with the skills required when starting out in their chosen career. Cambridge has worked with key industry employers and experts to make sure the Cambridge Technicals provide students with the right knowledge and competence required when entering into employment. These qualifications include a range of mandatory, optional and specialist pathway units, allowing students to really focus on what is right for their chosen career path.

The Foundation is equivalent to 1.5 AS levels and can be a qualification in its own right but also forms year one of the Extended Diploma

The Extended Diploma, will enable students to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of scientific principles and practical and analytical techniques. They will learn to carry out experiments safely and accurately and have the opportunity to collect, analyse, evaluate and present primary data.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs with grade Bs in double award Science and Maths and grade C in English

Assessment Method

Consists of mandatory units and optional units. Some of the mandatory units are exam based and others have assignments that are marked by the centre but moderated by the exam boards.

Study Methods

The lessons will be delivered through a combination of:

  • Assignments designed to develop the skills and knowledge of the course content
  • Experiments to capture and develop the practical elements of he course in line with Industry requirements
  • Internal assessment can be in the form of tests, presentations, case studies, practicals etc
  • External assessment set and marked by the exam boards To ensure all learners are ready for the new framework
