Fees indicated are based on the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change next year.
Our further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are usually free if you are 16-18 years old. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as course materials and travel.
If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees.
If you are enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and are over 19 years of age the fees may be higher and you will be required to take out an Advanced Learning Loan, please see the guide to fees for more information.
International students will be required to pay the full International course fee.

This course includes a series of practical and theoretical topics from biology, chemistry, physics and maths giving you enough depth and breadth to continue onto a career or course in a variety of fields in science.

Working in Science and Technology
Carrying out a Science or Technology Project Using ICT in the Workplace Using Mathematics Tools in Science and Technology Using Equipment to Make Scientific Observations and Measurements Making Useful Scientific Devices Effective Communication in the Workplace
2-4 GCSEs grade D or above (inc.English or Maths, or FS Level 1) Or Vocational level 1 with FS English and FS Maths at level 1 and recommendation from tutor
All assignments are scenario based to provide a vocational focus contextualising the work environment. Each assignment structure groups similar themed criteria together and where appropriate shows progression Pass, Merit or Distinction criteria. The assessment approach allows a greater flexibility for assessment for learning, where throughout the course learners can get feedback on their progress as they provide evidence to complete the assessment and grading criteria.
On successful completion of a Gateway qualification, learners can progress to or within employment and/or continue their study in the same or related vocational area. There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for employment in the appropriate vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a particular area of work. Some learners may wish to gain the qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment or to progress to a Level 3 programme in due course.
Where will this course take you? Most of the students who completed the Level 2 progress on to the Level 3 courses with an intention of doing a degree in a science related area later or NVQs such as Laboratory Science
