Fee Information

Fees indicated are based on the current academic year (2018/19) and are subject to change next year.

For students under 19

Our courses & apprenticeships are usually free if you are 18 or under on the 31st of August 2019. Some courses have additional fees for things like materials and travel, which you will need to pay at the start of your course. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support for these costs.

For students aged 19 or over

If you are aged 19 or over you may be required to pay fees. Some courses may be free, depending on your circumstances. Certain Level 3 & 4 courses require you to pay the fee in full or take out an Advanced Learning Loan to pay for your course. Please see our guide to fees for more information.

International Students

Students from outside the EU/EEA need to pay the full international fee for their course. Please note, West London College does not offer Tier 4 Visa Sponsorship for students to study in the United Kingdom.

 


About this course

This course ‘Travel to Employment’ prepares you to work within the travel industry. In year 1 you will study a range of units such as Worldwide travel and tourism destinations, the Principles of marketing for travel and tourism, Special interests holidays and independent travel, Business Travel, Global Distribution Systems (GDS – Galileo) and the Cruise Industry. If you stay for 2 years you will study more travel related units which would further develop your knowledge, skills and understanding to be able to either work or study further.

Entry Requirements

You will need:

  • 4 GCSEs at minimum Grade C in academic subjects;
  • Level 2 Diploma (Preferably in Travel and Tourism) at Merit or Distinction Level;
  • English and Maths at a minimum of GCSE Grade D or Functional Skills at level 1;
  • A good reference from your last place of study.

Applicants without the above but with relevant work experience may be accepted subject to interview, references, and a written test.

Assessment Method

The course is assessed through written assignments, reports, role plays, in class tests and online exams. This is an advanced level course which will require you do conduct a lot of independent research and written work.

Progression Opportunities

This course will allow you to progress onto a Degree/Foundation Degree typically in Travel & Tourism at selected universities.

You could work as a Hotel Receptionist, Travel Agency Consultant, Airport Customer Services Agent, Overseas Holiday Representative, Flight Attendant, Cruise Ship Purser, Tourism Marketing Assistant, Brochure Production Assistant, Reservations Staff and Cabin Crew.

Alternatively, this course provides a good basis for you to apply for an internship, apprenticeship or training programme at a travel company.

Study Methods

This vocational course prepares you to either study further or to work within the travel and tourism industry. It is a practical course which incorporates a series of planned trips and visits both in the UK and abroad. You will also have to develop some of the core knowledge and skills you will need to work within the industry such as map reading, sourcing appropriate holidays for different client groups, using GDS to book flights, customer service etc. You will learn in dedicated classrooms and be assessed through a wide range of methods.

The costs of planned trips will range from £300 - £400 in both year 1 and in year 2. All trips are linked to course assessments.
