When Jason Malipol made the decision to change careers and pursue his passion for graphic design, he chose West London’s College to give himself the best chance of getting ahead. He is now seven months into a new job with a graphic design agency having previously worked in architecture.
“Having been to university previously, I was put off by the fees and time (it would take to get a degree) and I also had a part time job” Jason explains. “Completing the course gave me a diverse portfolio of work, as well as the confidence and credibility to get a graphic design job”.
“Some students progress onto the Higher National Diploma course directly from studying level 3” says Course Leader Lee Stanard. “However Jason, like many applicants, had already studied another subject, but wanted to do something more creative and satisfying.”
Jason had volunteered at Brent Arts producing marketing materials when he decided to take up Graphic Design. Lee recalled looking at Jason’s portfolio and seeing that the course would really help him develop his skills.
“Through engaging with the design process and experimenting with a broad range of traditional and digital media through a range of graphics disciplines and contexts, Jason was able to find his direction and successfully change his career path.”
Jason says he enjoyed the variety his HND gave him while still allowing him to add his own touches and style to his work.
“The best thing about the course is being able to interpret project briefs to reflect the interests that you have in life be it a hobby, a curiosity, an art style … the list goes on! If you approach the course with this mindset you will produce work you can truly be invested in and ultimately be proud of.
“The course ultimately gifted me the opportunity to channel my passion for graphic design and be challenged by what it takes to produce the various outcomes the subject has to offer”.
After following his dream, Jason now works as Junior Graphic Designer at Hamilton-Brown Business Graphics.
