Three of our students had the exciting opportunity to take part in two weeks of work experience at a festive virtual reality cabin at Lyric Square in Hammersmith in December.
Level 3 Computing & ICT students Shanice Carew, Ryan Jones and Joseph Kelly helped run the festive digital experience as part of the Hammersmith London Digital Christmas. The experience was organised by Riverside Studios and Hammersmith BID, and designed to provide an innovative virtual reality experience to locals in the lead up to Christmas.
Ellie Browning, a programmer at Riverside Studios explained that Shanice, Ryan and Joseph’s main role was to guide the public through the process of using virtual reality technology, and praised their enthusiasm, patience, and aptitude.
She also spoke of the importance of engaging the College and local community:
“We were thrilled to involve students from West London’s College in our recent Virtual Reality Cabin project. As we plan for our re-opening in Spring 2018, it is important to us that the local community are invited to engage with our ambitions.
"Riverside Studios will combine a mixed programme of live and digital arts across our studio and cinema spaces, as well as learning and participatory activities for local, national, and international audiences.“
Following her work experience at the cabin, Shanice spoke glowingly of the experience and how much it will help her in the future.
“It was a really good experience that will really benefit me when I apply to university. The Oculus equipment we used is similar to what I want to work with in the future, and I learnt a lot about how it works.”
Ealing, Hammersmith & West London's College offer a wide range of ICT & Computing courses which include fantastic opportunities for work experience just like Shanice, Ryan and Joseph have had. Find out more about what Shanice has to say about studying Computing & ICT at West London's College:
