Hammersmith Boxing Club hosted a successful boxing show in partnership with the University of Westminster on Friday.
A range of boxers from several clubs, including our own WLC Boxing Academy, showcased their talent across 11 bouts in a highly successful event.
Bouts on the card included academy student Ala Poursadammi winning a unanimous points decision over an opponent from Harrow ABC in just his first competitive fight. Ala paid tribute to his trainers after the fight:
"I'm happy to have great coaches and people around me that believed in me and pushed me to another level not just physically but mentally" he said.
Later in the evening, academy student Marques Sobande-Stone went into his second competitive fight, taking on a competitor from the well respected Double Jab ABC. Marques fought well, seeing out the rounds and winning a unanimous points decision.
"I can only really say thank you to Richard, Mike and Dougie for their Support and guidance as well as the support from everyone in the academy."
The event was a great success with over 100 spectators in attendance. A number of academy students who weren't on the fight card were also on hand to assist with cornering, tickets, getting boxers to the ring and the running order to ensure the event ran smoothly.
Richard Powers who oversees the Boxing Academy put high praise on both his boxers, saying:
"It's been a complete pleasure seeing both Ala & Marques journey from year 1 academy students to progressing into year 2. Yesterday's event shows the achievements that hard work and dedication can give you. These two students have been a pleasure to coach at the boxing academy. I can personally say that both Ala & Marques are on the right path in making their name in amateur boxing".
