The 2017 edition of the Reading Ahead Challenge has officially been launched! Students are encouraged to sign up at the Learning Centre at Ealing, Hammersmith and Southall, or at the Gatehouse Learning Centre Tuesdays and Thursdays at Acton.
The 2017 Reading Ahead Challenge was launched with a flourish at Ealing Hammersmith & West London’s College with storyteller, rapper and entertainer Alim Kamara putting on an entertaining performance for hundreds of staff and students at Hammersmith & Fulham College and Ealing Green College this week. The events were organised by Jacqui Clarke and her Learning Centre team who are very much looking forward to getting more people reading.

The Reading Ahead Challenge is an annual event where students and staff are encouraged to read six books between January 18 and March 17 and record them in a reading diary with a few short notes about what was interesting in the book.
There will be a presentation ceremony at the end of March and prizes of books, gift vouchers and Amazon Fire HD8s will be handed out. All participants who complete the challenge will also receive an official Reading Agency certificate signed by a number of authors and our own CEO, Garry Phillips.
During his performances, Alim Kamara talked about his favourite books and how they helped him get ahead. He also discussed his experiences at university, explaining that he initially chose subjects to impress people rather than to follow his interests. He impressed on students the importance of making small steps towards your goals, suggesting students could read just ten pages a day to complete ten books in a year.
Reading is a great way to learn new ideas, find out about history or just relax into a different world. Sign up for the 2017 Reading Ahead Challenge at your Learning Centre at Ealing, Hammersmith and Southall, or at the Gatehouse Learning Centre Tuesdays and Thursdays at Acton.
