Last Friday, Level 2 and 3 Creative Media and Level 2 Design students welcomed a special guest in their class. Anushka Arora, a Bollywood journalist, and Sunrise Radio presenter came to talk to the students about her journey to radio broadcasting.
Anushka has been working at the Sunrise Radio for over 5 years now, and she also hosts many prestigious Bollywood events, including concerts and film premieres. As part of the workshop, Anushka shared her previous experience with the students, including tips on how to get into broadcasting through work in hospital or community radio stations. Anushka also highlighted that passion for radio is absolutely essential for those who consider the career because it is hard work which often includes odd working hours and unpaid work. She encouraged students to follow their dreams, be curious and research different opportunities.
The students had the opportunity to ask questions relating to Anushka’s work. Many students were interested in online journalism work and Anushka’s experience with celebrity guests. Other students wanted to learn more about available opportunities and her recommendations on how to begin their radio or TV broadcasting career in what can sometimes be a crowded market.
Anushka commented on her visit:
‘It was really great to come and talk to these talented young people and see how interested they are in broadcasting. I hope I encouraged them to seek out opportunities to start their career as soon as possible and to follow their passion. They had great questions too and I am very thankful to the West London College for inviting me.’
Our Creative Media students studying at the Ealing Green College have access to the latest high-tech equipment including cameras and recorders as well as many work experience opportunities. Industry professional guest visits, such as this one, help them better understand their progression possibilities and the current industry landscape too.
Abdulrahman Ibrahim, one of the Level 2 students, had very positive feedback on Anushka’s visit:
‘I think it was a very enjoyable talk. I would like to work in TV broadcasting in the future, as a reporter and learning about other people’s professional journey is helpful. We were really looking forward to this visit because we learn about creative media here at the college and having a professional coming to visit and talk to us is a great addition to what we learn in the classes.’
West London College will be talking again to the Sunrise Radio team soon! Tomorrow morning at 10.30, we’ll be visiting the studio to talk about our courses on offer, including creative media courses and much more.
The Creative Media Diploma is taught at Ealing Green College and is open for applications for courses starting in September.
