Last week we told you about both the benefits and successes of our work experience program with Reed NCFE. This week, we’re looking at things from an employer perspective.
A great work experience starts with a great employer who wants to make a difference in their industry and train the very best. Work experience is an opportunity to introduce young people to the reality of working life to help them develop the skills needed to secure and sustain employment. By taking students on work experience, you get an opportunity to engage, inspire and inform young people about what working life is really like.
Here are just a few of the reasons a work experience student could boost your business:
Grow your own talent
Work experience is a great way to get a bright young student who, with the right training, could potentially be the next big thing for your business.
Take an employee you want to give a management opportunity to, and involve them in training and looking after your work experience student. It’s a great step towards developing your current staff as future leaders in your business.
Raise your profile
Being known as a business that offers work experience opportunities will raise the profile and appeal of your business. Young people talk - and being known as a great place to work will only bring you good things.
Improve staff retention
Investing in young people brings commitment and loyalty, which means they are more likely to stay with the business reducing costs associated with recruitment and keeping productivity high.
Get additional help at no cost
As an employer, you do not have to pay students on work experience.
Young people often bring fresh ideas and approaches which could open up new opportunities and markets for your business.
