This course will give you an understanding of the principles and practices of internal quality assurance without a requirement to practice. It is also suitable if you are required to maintain the quality of assessment within an organisation or assessment centre.
By completing this qualification, you are able to internally verify the work of assessors who teach and assess students in your subject specialism, to ensure that all assessments are conducted fairly.
This course consists of a number of pathways:
- Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (6 credits)
- Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (12 credits)
Candidates will need to have up-to-date working knowledge and experience of best practice in assessment and quality assurance. And have at least two assessors to quality assure, each with a minimum of two candidates of their own, working towards the same qualification. It is advisable to hold a current assessor qualification or recognised equivalent (A1, D32/D33), and have a suitable qualified IQA within your specialist area that is able to countersign your evidence.
This course contains 2 units, one requires a demonstration of knowledge and understanding, and the other requires demonstration of competence within your specialist area.
Unit 2 of this course is assessed in the workplace and evidence for all learning outcomes for this unit must come from performance in the work environment, through observation of practice and expert witness testimonies, reflective accounts, professional discussions, assignment/workbooks, work products and review of work-based evidence.
There is a expectation that you will need to attend standardisation meetings within your sector and follow standardised procedures.
After successful completion of this course you may look at completing the Lead Internal Verifier qualification. This would require you to hold a management position and have overall responsibility for your centre as a Lead Internal Verifier.
Upon completion of the level 4 IQA Award, you will be a fully qualified IQA in your area of expertise, and be able to undertake IQA activities and monitor the assessment carried out internally by others.
This is a flexible course which will be delivered online and consists of 1-2-1 and group sessions, as well as 1-2-1 sessions with your allocated assessor who will support and guide you throughout your time on the course.
The duration of this course is 6-9 months, which is completed via a online e-portfolio system and is self-paced, allowing you to complete sooner.
