Creative Media Production and Technology Level 3 students took a trip to Riverside Studios in Hammersmith on 14 March to watch ‘Everything, Everywhere All at Once’, which just won 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress (Michelle Yeoh being the first Asian woman to win in this category). Twenty-eight students went along as part of the BFI Into Film Festival, which is a film festival for students consisting of free film screenings, workshops and talks by film industry professionals.
Before the film started there was a lecture by the British Board of Film Classification – BBFC – about how films are rated age appropriately, including ‘Everything, Everywhere All at Once’.
Rashayne Ezekiel Brown, one of the students on the trip said: “I enjoyed the trip as the movie wasn’t a movie I would have picked for my preference, however, I really enjoyed it and it opened my horizons and inspired me to broaden my movie choices. Also, the presentation by the BBFC helped me to understand how movies get rated before being allowed to be shown in cinemas. Overall, this trip was really useful to help me expand my knowledge of the film industry.”
Fellow classmate Ashira Ngandu said: “I enjoyed the movie and the trip because it allowed us to experience different aspects of the film industry. It also allowed us to get references that were in the film and gave me inspiration for my own work. This trip has helped me understand what the BBFC do and how important their job is for the film industry.”
