Nerjs Issa, a 19-year-old Beauty Therapy Level 3 student, recently showcased her remarkable talent in a nail techniques competition, making a significant achievement by securing fifth place in a highly competitive field. The competition was organised by the prestigious Professional Beauty, and Nerjs participated in the Nail Professional category.
Nerjs’ challenging task was to craft the perfect classic competition nail in elegant shades of pink and white. She was also required to skillfully paint nails in regular polish, with and without a topcoat.
Nerjs first completed Beauty Therapy Level 2 at WLC and then progressed to Level 3. She says that she struggled with academic work until she found her passion for beauty therapy. Nerjs talked about an assignment she is currently completing on the major systems of the human body. She listed each system… “nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, muscular, skeletal, endocrine – that’s hormones, immune, integumentary – that’s hair, skin and nails, and reproductive…” analysing how they affect health and wellbeing. Nerjs is also carrying out a study of the pathology of diseases.
Nerjs says: “These topics come under biology and chemistry, but because they are relevant to me understanding beauty therapy, I find them fascinating. I don’t think that would have happened before.”
For the future Nerjs plans to study Beauty Therapy Level 4 and then higher levels. While she studies she will support herself by working as a beauty therapist offering treatments such as laser hair removal, chemical peels and microneedle to remove skin pigmentation and scarring.
While Nerjs was nervous at first to enter the competition, she said: “I’m proud of myself for entering the competition and holding my own against nail artists much more experienced than me. I’m looking forward to entering more competitions.”
Nerjs is a qualified nail technician, she works as a beautician and runs her own business – you can see her TikTok here.
